My friend Jan Edmonson of the Pacific Northwest has inspired me to blog. Actually, he just tipped the scale. My friend Chris Barnett, a writer extraordinaire whose work I have admired now going on three decades, first planted the notion. Once, after sharing my thoughts on a particular trip — back in the days when travel was my life, my existence, my burden and my joy — Chris suggested the “The Doke Dispatch,” apparently so others could suffer along with him.
As noted in my profile, but worth posting here on this first entry: With an increasingly pointless amount of arguably useless information packed inside my head, and a totally inappropriate number of opinions about virtually everything, and a poor spouse who must suffer through listening to both, it seemed only fitting to foist them upon others who care to read and react. Now closing in too rapidly on 60 years, this is an outlet intended not to unleash but enlighten, myself much more than others.
May that intent be carried out here. More, unfortunately, to come…
